Abducted baby found safe after Mom was shot dead

Yesterday, 28 year old Kala Marie Golden was leaving the Northwoods Pediatric Center in Spring Texas after a checkup with her son, 3 day old Keegan Schuchardt, about 2 p.m. when she and a woman in a Blue Lexus parked next to her pickup truck began to argue, Montgomery County sheriff's Lt. Dan Norris said.

 Witnesses said the woman shot Golden about seven times, took the infant and sped away. They said they heard Golden screaming "My baby" (even after she had been shot) as she tried to grab her son from the car but got ran over by the Lexus. It was also reported that there was a man in the Lexus.
As the mother lay dying in the parking lot, a description of the getaway vehicle and occupants quickly went out as an Amber Alert.

Keegan's father, Keith Schuchardt, told the Houston Chronicle that he and Golden had been married for three years. Schuchardt said he learned of the shooting because as Golden lay dying she asked another woman to call him and tell him what had happened.
"I loved her, and she loved me," Schuchardt told Houston television station KHOU. "Everything was going fine until today."
Golden's mother, Linda Golden, told the AP that she had been baby-sitting another of Kala's sons when someone at the scene called her using her daughter's cellphone. She rushed to the clinic but was unable to see her daughter because paramedics were trying to save her.

"I wanted to kiss her before they put her in the ambulance," Linda Golden said. Golden later died at a local hospital.

The 3 day old boy was found safe in an apartment around 8 p.m., about six hours after his mother.

The suspect in the killing and abduction, Verna Deann McClain, a 30-year-old mother of three, and a registered Vocational nurse has been arrested.. Verna who has her own kids ages 16, 10 and 6 years old reportedly told her sister she was about to adopt a baby. The shocking part of this whole incident to me is that this woman already had her own kids which means she knew the stress involved in being pregnant and going through labour to have a child. So why did she kill Kala? Why didn't she feel empathy for her? Why did she pick her? Was Kala targeted? So many questions which will hopefully be answered soon.

Keegan remains in custody of the state's Child Protective Service officials were looking after Keegan but that they expected the baby to soon be reunited with his father according to Montgomery County District Attorney Brett Ligon.

According to a Montgomery County arrest record, McClain, 30, admitted to shooting Golden and taking Keegan to Harris County, where the baby was subsequently found. Spring is 20 miles away from Houston. Houston  is in Harris County where the killer listed an address in the city as her home, according to jail records.
McClain gave authorities information that only the shooter would know, according to the arrest record.

She is being held without bail.

The Montgomery County Sheriff's office said in a statement that officers found Keegan with Corina Jackson, McClain's sister. Jackson told investigators that McClain told her she would need to "do the adoption," according to the county record.

Smh... there are a lot of crazy people out there. I hope Verna Deann McClain gets the sentence she deserves. Hopefully she gets the maximum and spends the rest of her life in Prison. One less crazy person out of the street.
